The subject-matter of my master’s thesis was the conservation and restoration of the painting Sleeping Baby Jesus. The turbulent war and post-war history of the painting is not fully known, but it certainly contributed to the critical condition of the work. Initially I could not imagine the final effect of conservation and restoration works due to the advanced extent of degradation of all technological layers of the painting. The positive results of undertaken actions surpassed my expectations. The final effect is an outcome of many hours of complex conservation and restoration processes requiring concentration and precision. When working on this painting, I realised that knowledge, skills and patience could restore the good condition of even most seriously endangered (actually, demolished) historic objects.
