The historic objects being the subject-matter of the MA degree piece were exceptional for two reasons.
Firstly, they are ethnographic objects – four masks from three different cultures. They form a record of religious practices from outside Europe and, therefore, require a specific approach at the time of conservation works. Secondly, they were made using the papier-mâché technique, where paper is used for making three-dimensional objects. The identification of the technology used for making each mask constituted a part of the degree piece and was necessary for matching the conservation method to specific features of each object.

Originally, the draft minor degree assumed the creation of an artistic book inspired by William Blake’s works, particularly The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. In the course of time, the minor degree became a series of loosely interconnected illustrations. The pieces are an attempt to create a personal mythology, which will serve as a form of artistic language in the future.
