The catchword that inspired me to create a collection was RYCZKA. This word derives from Silesian dialect and means a low seat. There are lots of stools similar to ryczka, and each of them belongs to a different cultural circle and contains different meanings. Stools fulfil also other utilitarian and metaphorical functions.
Having done research concerning low stools without backrests, I identified nine icons/archetypes being the sign of a group of seats with a similar structure. None of the icons is embedded in a specific place and time, and their form has recurred in waves across time and space.
The collection I have created refers to six icons identified by me: Stump, Bench, Ryczka, Milkman’s Stool, Burgher’s Stool, Self-made Stool.
The stools are designed as story-telling objects. They are multifunctional, but personal.
