Memoirs of a Porcupine is a story referring to an African legend according to which each human being has its animal lookalike. The title protagonist and its master are connected by a specific bond – a network of dependencies and a sense of duty to their bloodthirsty mission. Full of local traditions, black magic and literary references, the philosophical tale is a spontaneous emotional monologue of the title porcupine. It is marked by a reflection on human nature, which constantly oscillates between its bright and dark side.

As a part of the book design, I made several carpets and put their photographs on its flyleaves. The overlapping various sizes of sections help to reflect the multi-layered nature of the story and evoke associations with the patchwork technique or a type of labyrinth.
