There is no denying that the contemporary fashion world is highly destructive. Clearly, it has been dominated by a Western mindset. Some of its postulates seem inviolable. However, there are always different ideas. They wait hidden in other cultures.
For instance: Western fashion is about aggressively fitting fabrics on body curves, complicated contours, cut-up material, and a lot of scraps. The fashion of traditional Japan is about prioritising the fabric, respecting the material, rectangular shapes, folding techniques, and no scraps.
Through transformation, I wanted my designs to become a bridge between the Western and Japanese fashion. My goal was to create clothes that would change not only shapes but also meanings. I intended to emphasise the contrast between various approaches to clothing and textiles.
I explored. I analysed. In Japan, I looked for something new. Change.
