I intended my degree piece to be a complementary reflection of my artistic interests. Both the degree piece, thesis, and the minor degree are related to music theatre in general, which is my preferred means of stage expression. I wanted to put a human face on G. Meyerbeer’s great romantic show “Robert the Devil”, and at the same time, in the abundance of staging means, not to obscure the message of the piece – the sense of constant struggle between good and evil in everyone’s life. The world I created oscillates between limitation and infinity – the overwhelming and mundane versus the vast realm of supernatural powers.

The degree piece topic is contrasted by the minor degree piece – the visual language that I developed for the play “Hotel Ritz”. The humorous world of the musical is a play on form, colour, and aesthetics of the interbellum.
