Issues of conservation of 18th-century footwear made of various materials, based on the example of a women’s slipper from the National Museum in Warsaw inv. no. SZT.756.MNW
Description
The conservation of the slipper—an interdisciplinary object—was an extremely complex process. The challenges included working on the undismantled object and its technology. The precise identification of dating and conservation methods was possible due to historical, microchemical and technological examinations. The work resulted in restoring the original shape of the slipper by cleaning its textile and leather elements and in reconstructing the embroidery, lining and heel covering. This gave the slipper a better display value while preserving its original character.
