The degree piece The Underground of Memory is a video project being a record of my process of examining the broadly understood issue of memory and its loss. Grave silence and mournful turmoil alternately resonate in its background.
The inhabitants of an unnamed island live in a world from which objects regularly disappear and the memory police guard the process of their forgetting. One hot day the birds disappear, another day roses and tree seeds share the same fate, the next day the calendars disappear and eternal winter sets in. The ferry slides into the sea, the café gets mouldy. The left leg, the right leg and the left hand disappear. ‘What will happen when the cheeks disappear? How to cry after that? How to wipe away the tears?’.
