The laboratory of smell

Smell – a property of chemical compounds or their mixtures consisting in the ability to stimulate the sense of smell, i.e. to play the role of stimuli producing impressions. Inspired by synaesthesia – a phenomenon where one sense is capable of evoking experiences that are normally associated with other senses – I created a series of objects being real representations of selected aromas. The recorded observations helped me “sniff out” their colour, form and structure.

I made the objects using natural pigments and waste or biomaterials created by me. I examined the possibilities of giving a physical form to aromas, sharing my feelings and associations with the recipient.
